TYNESIDER. ON852.
The Second of 28 Watson 46ft 9in Lifeboats and built by J S White at Cowes in 1947.
Her building cost of £16367 was covered by the "Tyneside Blitzed Lifeboat Fund".
Weight was 21 Tons 15 Cwt and she was launched from a Slipway.
Initially twin 40hp Ferry VE4 diesels were fitted, but these were replaced by twin 65hp Parsons Barracuda Diesels in 1965.
She served at Tynemouth from November 1947 until April 1979.

Relief July 1980 to 1983 before being sold out of service in February 1984.
Still called Tynesider she was last noted, unaltered as a pleasure boat in December 2010 at Iron Wharf, Faversham.

This Design of Watson was altered through the years and from the 1960's many were fitted with an enclosed mid-ships wheelhouse and a "Once Only" self righting system. However Tynesider was fitted with an Open Rear Cockpit and did not have this system. The Hull was Wood and the superstructure Aluminium.
