The Royal National Lifeboat "Margaret Joan and Fred Nye" berthed at Hartlepool Marina.

This Severn Class lifeboat (RNLI 17-46) came into service in 2004 and is part of the relief fleet.

The Last Severn Fast Afloat boat to be built.
Hull and superstructure by Green Marine with fitting out by the Berthon Boat Company.
Legacies of Miss Joan Nye, Miss C H G Willis, Mrs M Howard, and others.
Cost £1,800,000.
Fitted with twin Caterpillar 1,200 bhp diesels giving a speed of 25 knots.
Length 55ft 9ins. Beam 18ft. Draught 5ft 6ins.
Fuel Capacity 1,200 Gallons. Displacement 36.9 Tons.

Designed by the RNLI's In-House Team the engines are positioned aft and the hull is divided into seven compartments.
The deckhouse has seating for six crew and a Doctor with room for two loaded stretchers. A small Y class inflatable, launched by a davit is also carried. Another inovation was the fitting of a small bow thrust unit.
