Albert Weller slide is indeed Aberdeen Going alongside the Albert Quay with what was left of the fishing fleet behind her. The buildings right in the background is the fish market, now closed. There used to be a floating dock for running repairs to small trawlers/support boats But that was in the past! Rgeards Graham
Walked down the Fish Quay in May 1968, large number of trawlers, nose to quay like the old North Wall at Grimsby. 25 trawlers, 1 ferry (ST. CLAIR), 1 tanker, 2 cargo, 2 dredgers and 2 frigates (GRAFTON & MALCOLM). No oil rig vessels at all!
My Wife came from Aberdeen so when I was home we often returned to visit the Clan Farquharson crowd and I used to get up early to have a walk around the Fish Market, certainly a very busy place up till around 10am then Aberdeen went quiet barring for the Inter Island Ferry and the Ships being discharged at the American Sheds. One of the few places that had a 'Wall of Death' at the Fairground near the seafront. I did a trip on a Long Liner Trawler called 'Loch Kildonan" up to the North Cape officially as an Engineer but really part of 'Operation Hornbeam', never again it was tough going in bad weather on such a small vessel. Great admiration for Fishermen, Fish Friday is sacred to me, looking at the Trawlers now being built and the number of screens on the Bridge the Skipper needs an "Oligy" these days instead of a "nose" for where the fish are Ron@?
