First trip to Aberdeen was 1981.
My mother's sister lived there, her husband was a McAlpine's fusilier (google the Dubliners) and had been all over Scotland so cheap holidays (only cost me the price of petrol, film and ham & pease pudding)
Place was bustling with a variety of ships mainly because there was on offshore exhibition in the city and it was a case of reps taking potential clients down to the ship which they were interested in chartering. Three or four days there sitting on the south side of the harbour catching everything that moved, and some that didn't over the fence.
Racked up photographs with calls at Berwick (always empty), Eyemouth, Dunbar, Leith, Grangemouth, Inverkeithing, Perth, Dundee and Montrose. And repeat on the way back.
Oh and BIG ORANGE XVIII never seemed to move in all the years I went north.

Oh and in those days everything was 1st generation - also known as tat!
Converted ferries were used as survey vessels and some of the ORSV's were very basic in the 499/1000grt range.
