Can't find a KELLY from 1942 only the 1939 version.

All very strange

I have been cheeky (oooh!) and sent the following question to the seller

"Why 1942 on the bell as she was completed in 1939 and sunk in 1941, can you prove this is genuine? I have also seen a report that her bell was bought some years ago by Tyne and Wear Archives who I believe still have it."

Cleverly (or sneakily?) worded response from the seller ...

"That is what is stamped on it I am not listing this as an original bell The 32cm-high bell, the last remaining part of the much-loved Second World War destroyer, which was built at Hawthorn Leslie Shipyard, Hebburn in 1939, was bought at auction following a successful bid by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums this is where the original bell is and is open to any one to find out, The inspiration for the 1942 film, In Which We Serve, HMS Kelly has been the source of local pride for decades may this is where it is from who know."

Well, the "Kelly" bell went for £248.

Some sucker fell for it, then.

Would have been interesting to have found out its History..

Its obvious to us that it is not off HMS KELLY as a) the date is wrong, b) its unusual to see H.M.S., it would normally be HMS and the Defence Department "Arrow" inbetween the 19 and the 42 is also unusual.

BUT it was cast for a purpose.......................cannot help but wonder WHY!!
