For details see: http://www.tynebuiltships.co.uk/M-Ships/medic1963.html

Can some one help an old duffer here regarding the location of the photo? That is Readheads at the far right I presume. But if so then I can't place the riverside behind the MEDIC. No dry docks and what is that large building in the background?

Just guessing, she's off Wallsend with Hawthorn Leslie in distance?
Note no anchors on her so maybe being turned on her fitting out berth?

Ahhh, that's a better fit. The large building could then be Simpson's Hotel at Jarrow maybe. Thanks George.

Oh, so coming upriver with Swan's in background, and a much older Shaw Savill alongside there?

I think it's the Neptune yard in the distance.

So totally wrong again. Got it now. Thanks Kevin. That building is the old office block for Mitchell, Armstrong Mitchell and then Armstrong Whitworth Low Walker Yard.

Actually, I think it may have just been Armstrong Whitworth. I've just "driven" down the road on Google Maps and the building has a date plaque of 1915. This yard was:

Charles Mitchell Co, Low Walker: 1852 - 1882
Armstrong, Mitchell & Co Ltd, Low Walker: 1882 - 1897
Armstrong, Whitworth & Co Ltd, Low Walker: 1897 - 1928

I agree Kevin - in the distance is Neptune Yard - the long grey building visible behind Impetus is the Fabrication Shop, with the berth cranes behind. Not visible, behind Medic, is the Walker ferry landing and the adjacent, ever fragrant, "Bone Yard".
Regards, Dennis.
