Not only losing a sense of history in this 'modern' world the Port these vessels Dock Ijmuiden seems to be losing its identity and now comes under the title of " Port of Amsterdam".
If you are interested in WW2 forget about Amsterdam and its "Special" Coffee Shops  have a wander around Ijmuiden a great place for looking around the former E Boat Bunkers which are opposite where these vessels Dock to the Bunker Museums on the Seafront. Bon Voyage.

The Maltese Cross on DFDS ships is also linked to WW2 via the secret 'Maltese Cross' agreement between UK and Germany to allow DFDS ships to trade Denmark-UK in late 1939 through to early 1940, recognising that both countries needed Danish produce.

Would quite happily get on and this end and get off at Ijmuiden and have awander around the docks and the new locks at the entrance to the North Sea Canal
And I bet there would be little or no restrictions on access!

Graham unfortunately unless you just happen pick the right day or by invitation the inside of the E Boat Bunkers are off limits  but a wander around the outside is interesting when you look at the Shell/ Bomb damage they took and consider that the the German Third Reich did not last a thousand years but their Concrete certainly will, not forgetting to pay respect to the sacrifice made by the "Slave Labour" who built the massive structure. The Fort on the Island is interesting along with the Marine Museum Plenty of interesting Shipping to see. Ron@?
