What a smart looking ship in her day, 'looks like' an ex tanker converted into a cargo ship :D

from which it would seem she was built as, and always was, a general cargo ship.
On that basis she seems to have been years ahead of her time in being engines aft?
There would be tankers and probably bulk carriers, but I struggle to think of engines-aft general cargo ships dating back to the 40s apart from war-built ships such as Cunard's BRESCIA. .... but keep me right!!

There were of course the specialist heavy lift ships of the "Bel" fleet by Armstrong, Whitworth & Co: BELDIS 1924, BELJEANNE 1926, BELMOIRA 1928, BELNOR 1926, BELPAMELA 1928, BELPAREIL 1926 and BELRAY 1926.

.... and now you remind me of these, there were the later EMPIRE ships from the mid-40s which became the BENLEDI and sisters.
