TUNDRALAND

I have not come across many photos from the Tyne in Charlie Hill's sets but here is TUNDRALAND in a familiar setting.
Operated by A/B Svenska Orient Linien from completion in 1958 by A.G. Weser, surprised to see that she was briefly registered at Newcastle in 1973 (as seen here) before passing to the Canadian flag

She is listed as sold to Resolute Shipping Ltd. in 1973, registered first Newcastle (GBR flag) then later in the year to Montreal (CAN flag).

After the war (2nd not Boer) it was too expensive to operate under the Canadian flag so Canadian owners bought surplus war standard built tonnage and kept the ships on the British register until the mis 1950s when it became feasible/profitable to operate under the Canadian flag.
