Help with Identification please

Postby Whickham » Sat Feb 27, 2021 11:16 pm

Gents (and others) I have been sent this photo of a freighter at Cape Town in February 1933. The sender has suggested that it might be a Tyne built ship but I think this might just be an excuse to get another set of eyes on the photo. Anyone out there with any ideas?

Plenty of detail in the ship, but I suspect that the overexposure of the white may hide some emblem on the white band of her funnel, which would be the key to her name.
Could be a Rowland & Marwood!

It would seem that she has been identified as HANAU of the Deutsch-Australische fleet, built by Blohm & Voss at Steinwerder in 1921.
