Gwentland

Postby Whickham » Tue Apr 19, 2016 10:26 am

Came across this photo of GWENTLAND on the Photoship site.
Now according to Miramar there have only been two ships of this name, one built by Readhead on the Tyne in 1881 and the other by Thompson at Southwick in 1923.
We haven't got photos on either the Tyne or Wear sites to compare with and this would be a valuable addition. But which one is she?
My gut feeling based on the rudder is Readhead, but she was only under this name to 1907. I would appreciate any thoughts.

She is in Morel's funnel colours which would confirm as her appearance (and those other ships) also does that she is the earlier Readhead build.

The nearest steamer on the right seems to have the 'G' on her funnel of the West Hartlepool S.N. Company.
