From their web site:

Object: To promote and foster good relations between persons and organisations in the communities of Tyne, Wear and Blyth who are interested in maritime affairs

The Tyne Area Shipping Club was founded in 1974 by a group of like-minded men who shared a love for ships, shipping and all things nautical. Our present membership numbers over 80 people; they hail from various backgrounds mostly connected with maritime occupations - these range from all ranks of deck officers and engineer officers through the ratings having served or serving in merchant ships, offshore support vessels and tugs. River pilots, foyboatmen and so on - a number of our members simply like ships!

The club meets each second Thursday of the month at 1930 hours at the Old Ship public house Harton Village, South Shields - across the road from St Peter's Church. For full address see Meetings page or click Map and get directions.

Each month we have a guest speaker. The topics covered in these talks are refreshingly stimulating and wide-ranging and provide a good basis for discussion and questions - even more in the bar downstairs after the talk. The speakers and subjects are included under meetings.

I have e-mailed them via their website as I don't know who is involved with this Club, hope they will become supporters of NEM also!
