Sadly I have received news of the death yesterday of Alan Bishop, long serving stalwart of the World Ship Society, apparently from a heart attack at his Huddersfield home.
Alan was a larger than life character in every meaning of the term and will be much missed by his many friends in the shipping enthusiasts community.

Thanks for posting this George.

Alan has had a lot of health problems over the years, but he did seem to be picking up and was more like his old self at last years AGM.
Alan was always the one who kept the records whilst the rest of the 'Gang' took the photographs.

We will all miss him at this years AGM.

Rest in Peace, Alan.

Yes Paul, I used to receive his occasional 'Letters from Huddersfield' with exact detail of his tours, including train times and hotels, as well as every ship seen! He had a good circle of friends who were always there to meet him and transport him around.
