Not something you will ever likely see again. Wonder if those who serve in nukes realise they will never visit anywhere other than Faslane or Gibraltar. And Singapore if one can be spared.
This boat Splendid paid off in 2004 and ever since has been laid up in Devonport with 4 of her sisters in long term storage still (nuclear) fuelled. It will be years before the lengthy and expensive dismantling will commence although Swiftsure is in hand at Rosyth, the first British nuke being slowly and painfully recycled years late and £MILLIONS over budget.
Do you know the costs involved ? No...well, to dismantle / recycle and arrange storage of the reactors will be £7.5 BILLION for the 20 nukes currently past their use by dates, over 30 years, and the 2019 cost per boat for dismantling is £96 MILLION, what Splendid cost to build in the 1970's. Current cost to build an Astute is over £1 BILLION.
Many people are having a laugh, all the way to the bank. AT OUR EXPENSE.
Thats all folks. Sean.
