Top Gun?

Postby Hornbeam » Tue May 24, 2022 10:36 am

Big publicity operation going on again about the American Navy Fighter Weapons School, it is very disappointing and sickening that the British contribution to this School has been swept aside, if it had not been for our Fleet Air Arm Air Warfare School and a Air Warfare Instructor called Dick Lord going over to the States to teach them how to fly and use their Guns in a Dog Fight the Americans would have had some difficulties.
Dick Lords contribution to the "Top Gun" start up was the key to unlocking a forgotten method of Warfare by the Americans who had relied upon missiles rather than guns in Vietnam at the cost of many downed American Aircrew.
At the time this involvement was Highly Secret due to our Government Policy of non involvement, but behind the scenes of course we were involved
The Americans paid us back in the Falklands War although they had an official Policy of non involvement, but behind the scenes of course they were involved in the supply of Fuel and Equipment.
As we learned in the Falklands at great cost all Missile carrying Warships are not the answer.
