To add another perspective ;-) - these from the North side of the Tyne

The French Navy Lapérouse class Hydrographic Survey Vessel , FS Laplace (A789) comes into the Port of Tyne on 17th May 2012. Heading for Newcastle for a courtesy visit.

Hate to spoil this but she is not Laplace.

Her correct name is 'La Place'.

She is one of four La Perouse Class, Hydrographic Survey Ships built by DCN, Lorient and in service 5th October 1989.
She was laid Down on the 1st September 1987 and Launched on the 9th November 1988.

Displacement 850 Tons; 980 Full Load.
Speed; 15 knots.
Dimensions; 59.00 x 10.90 x 3.63 m
A; 2 x Single 12.7 mm mg.
M; Twin Diesels driving Twin CP Props. 2,500 bhp. + 200 hp Bow Thruster.
Range 6,000/12
Crew; 2 Officers, 11 Petty Officers, 14 Crew + 11 in the Survey Team.

Always the same with french words, was hopeless at french at school.
