Launch of the Connaught for the Atlantic Royal Mail Steam Navigation Co. by Palmers, Jarrow 21.04.1860, taken from the Illustrated London News. Caught fire and sank 08.10.1860 near St. John's, Newfoundland.

Third line of Dave's press cutting. A word you don't see every day (in fact, not sure if I've ever seen it before!)
Gratulations, as can be guessed, does indeed mean congratulations! So, why was it necessary to lengthen what appears to be an already acceptable word?
