What a greyhound. Remember her well. Even remember walking under her on my way to lunch.

I only remember her because after she was completed she lay of the Tyne for what seemed several weeks and she became something of a landmark, possibly seamark, for me going to school from Blyth to Tynemouth.

Actually for a vessel of 263,382 Dwt and a speed of 15.5 Knots she was something of a Greyhound, but not as fast as a whippet.

Not only could you walk under them, you could drive under them as well. I'm sure we did when going to service one of the Yard Gas Meter's.
