Another of her .... clearly did not want to be built in Hebburn!

Trials photo

1908, 1938grt
Wood, Skinner & Co., Bill Quay (147) for Burnett S.S. Co., Newcastle
Torpedoed by UB.91 on 25/02/1918 when 14 miles south of Mine Head, outward from Barry with coal

Actually we seem to have 2 different vessels here. Being a popular name, I have listed
1915 and 1925 by Blyth
1900, 1908 and 1924 by Wood Skinner.

George,
That one is the 1900 model.

Re the second photo, this came to me as a batch of Wood Skinner trials photos and all other vessels are in range 1896-1909 so as far as I know, this is the 1908 vessel.

Sooooooooo is the Top one actually the 1908 one???

She's fitted with Radio and what looks like a Radio Direction Finder.

So is this one of the 1920's ones.

I'm lost in 'Hebburn', dodgy spot to be lost in, photographers lurking in the dark and rain, stray hippos in dark streets and all that ..... help!

OK so we have Five Ships called HEBBURN. No 6 is to wee.

Three built by Wood Skinner for the BURNETT SS Co, (1900; 1908 and 1924) and two built at Blyth for HUDDART PARKER, (1915 and 1925)

We can discount the Two Blyth built ones as they were bigger and Huddart Parker's Cargo Vessels had a Black Funnel whilst the Passenger Vessels had a Yellow one.

Burnett's funnel was Black with a broad Yellow Band. The funnel colours of the first picture appear to have two narrow bands either side of a broad band, but the picture quality is not so good and I'm hoping its trick of the light! OR we do have a problem!!

The 1900 Built HEBBURN was 1032 Gross and was named Hebburn from 1900 to 1907.
The 1908 one was 1938 Gross and named Hebburn from 1908 till her loss by Torpedo on the 25th September 1918.

The 1924 built HEBBURN of 2,881 Gross was named as such from 1924 to 1938 when she was renamed STANBURN. (Lost 1940)

Now if you look carefully you can see that the vessel in the first picture is fitted with WIRELESS and what looks very much like a Loop, Radio Direction Finder on top of the Bridge. The Bridge is also ENCLOSED.
Radio Direction Finders started to come into use in the 1930's and 1940's.

So I think the First Photograph is of the 1924, WOOD SKINNER built HEBBURN (2,881 Gross.)

Based on the Wireless, Direction Finder and time spent as HEBBURN.

Unless of course there was yet another HEBBURN that we don't know about!

.... and indeed she looks like a good match for sister or near sister MARSDEN for the same owner also in 1924.

The photo I posted was part of a set of trials photos from Wood Skinner all dated 1896-1909 so maybe she is the 1900 not the 1908.

I thought the FLAG HOIST's may have helped BUT NO!!

The 1900 one was RTWF and the 1908 one HMDL

Ohh to have some early Lloyd's Registers!!

That would have given us the 'Island' measurements........although Sod's Law would creep in....with two ships so close they probably used the same plans and stretched them a bit
