Seeing Mick's original post above sent me back to check my own collection. I found I had this view of her as W.D. EUROPE at Tilbury on 21 July 1980, taken by Lawrence Amboldt:
The newest in the Fleet when I was involved her Chief was Ernie B., she also carried a 2nd Eng. Two Scotch Boilers fired with the Weirs system and Burners. Unlike other Dredgers which had their T.E. positioned For and Aft being a Dumb Barge her Engine was Athwartships with the belt drives up to the top tumbler on either side of the yet again 'spindly' type engine. Although the belt drives were quiet a Bucket Dredger is not and when it/they were working you could hear them for miles. Not good if they are working 24hrs which I understand she did under her new owners.
The photo by Ron of No11 shows a dumb Barge alongside, these were not of the Dumb Barge/ Hopper type as they had no bottom doors to dispose of spoil at sea and were purely used between Dredgers and Reclamation Plant, they were all specially built by Smiths Dock (Tees) to accommodate the requirements of the Reclamation Plants unloading sequence to prevent 'Hogging' Ron@2.
