T.C.C. HOPPER NO. 2 (5347752): 604gt;
7.1924 completed by Ropner S.B. & R. Co. (Stockton) Ltd., Stockton-on-Tees for Tees Conservancy Commissioners;
1.1.1967 ownership passed to Tees and Hartlepools Port Authority;
22.1.1969 sold to Clayton & Davie Ltd., Dunston, Gateshead, to be broken up.

No2 was the grand old lady of the Hopper Fleet, as previously mentioned built by Ropners her Triple Expansion was built by Blair's, I was her Chief when her permanent Chief had some private business to attend to, her Engineroom was certainly a walk back in time, her T.E. was massively over engineered compared to the "spindly" T.E. on Numbers 5&6 and I remember she had a series of little tanks above the workbench each marked up in white paint with the type of oil that was in them including 'Whale Oil', along with their highly polished brass lockable drain cocks. Certainly built to last.

Her Chiefs name came to mind just the other day, he of T&C Wife fame, a lovely old chap called Theo, kept her going like a sewing machine and considering the vessel's age his Care& Mtce ensured her long life whilst other vessels of younger years were turned into razor blades, like other vessels built around that time she was "overengineered" which was a bonus although her Left Handed Engineroom did catch me out a couple of times! Theo was a B.G. Engineer however return hand overs could be long sessions as he always wanted to know in minute detail any work/adjustments I had made to his baby despite my logging them in great detail :D
