ADMIRAL (1865)

This view was sent to me some time ago (which means I've forgotten who sent it!):

This shows the wreck of the TCC wood paddle tug ADMIRAL which blew up through a boiler explosion on 16 June 1888 with one fatality, that of John Thomas Mitford. This view shows her beached (said to be near where the Transporter Bridge now stands) before she was broken up just over a month after the incident.
She was 82gt, built at North Shields and completed May 1865 for a partnership including William Fallows, one of the Tees Commissioners. She was sold on to William Bulmer in 1874 before being purchased by TCC, for £1558, in June 1880.
She was briefly replaced in 1888 by another ADMIRAL hired from Hepple & Co., from the Tyne.
