A splendid view of Middlesbrough Dock probably in the mid-1930's with QUEENS CROSS in action

Scheeps. Nimmerzust, Lekkerkerk (83) as VLAANDEREN for Bureau Wijsmuller
1933 QUEENS CROSS, Tees Towing Company (Robinson & Crosthwaite)
Sold in 1948 as GOOS, Nederland Indische Steenkolen Handel Maats.
Reduced to a workboat in 1953, laid up from 11/1959, broken up 1961

Ahead of the Brocklebank on No 6 Quay you can make out the old footbridge that
went over the railway lines.

I wonder how many of us developed our love of ships from this bridge, I certainly did.

It was completely open to anyone, no security or dock police in those days (early 1950's)
and you could stand on the bridge and see all those wonderful cargo liners from the
major companies.

I used to get the train (steam) from Robin Hoods Bay, lean out of the window approaching
Middlesbrough station. Walk down Bridge Street, stand on the bridge to see the ships and
then get the next train home !!

Much the same here Tony, except a shorter journey from Redcar, you really were dedicated!
By the time I arrived, c.1959, there was a policeman guarding the bridge or on patrol so had to nip in and out quickly or got chased off!
