..... absolutely nothing to do with ships but, with all the hoo-haa about The Beatles LOVE ME DO entering the pop charts 50 years ago, by co-incidence a new entry in the UK Top 50 for 6 October 1962 was the previously mentioned LET'S DANCE by Chris Montez at no. 46.

In the useless information category Cliff Richard's DO YOU WANT TO DANCE? had dropped out of the charts a month previously. For other "dance" title songs see: http://chartarchive.org/?action=search&query=dance (I note I missed the most famous of all - FLORAL DANCE by Terry Wogan!!)

George, I see we have to wait another 5 years yet for bare-footed Sandie Shaw and PUPPET ON A STRING!

You forgot your local wandering minstral Chris Rea. In his own words were you 'On the beach' and who was the first tug to ask 'Lets Dance' ? Oh and did any of you fall in love with a 'Stainsby Girl' ??

Well "Santini's Cafe" might have sounded more Italian than Rea's Cafe which was (still is?) on the stray at Redcar ... perhaps complementing our other Italian family, the Pacittos famous for their ice cream!

.... and Chris Rea's family did have their own ice cream shops in Middlesbrough, straddling Albert Park. One on the small block between Kensington Road and Ayresome Street (opposite the cenotaph), the other at the Clairville end of Park Road North, now the Porthole Cafe (so that must qualify to keep this in a nautical website???).
(And I went to one of the grammar schools, so not to Stainsby!)
