Another gem from the past, an aerial view of Tyne dock in 1949.
I think what this picture shows is that Tyne dock was not just for coal export in those days as there looks a variety of ships onloading/loading cargo and also views of some of the river not used now on the north side and obviously all the dock now has been filled in forever!.

I know it was a major timber importing dock, especially Russian, as can be seen on the west side.
Across the river is seen another coal-export dock later filled in ... Northumberland Dock was its name?

Wonder if that's a Hall Bros with the white boot-topping, they certainly used it later on AMBASSADOR of 1945.

Even in 1949, the two central sets of staiths have been reduced to dock level.
