Glas Dowr

FPSO GLAS DOWR coming down the Tyne from A&P. Can't remember the detail of why she was in the river, so hopefully someone will help out. At first I thought all the photos were mine but then I noticed a date of 09/08/2000 written on the back of two of them. This proves they were not my photos and I suspect (know) that they will have come to me from Hebburn.

I found the Miramar info quite surprising. New tanker 1 year old has engine removed and is converted into an FPSO.
Was the original tanker damaged? So looked her up on the web. Nice bit of history here that pulls it all together.

and incidentally GLAS DOWR means Blue Water apparently (in Welsh or Gaelic?)

Wonder what happened to the engine?
Ship's engine for sale, one careful owner still in warranty period. Offers ......

FPSO Floating Production Storage and offload facility.

So it is easier to convert an oil tanker which has most of what you want. The F,S & O parts anyway.

Laid up on the Tyne, by McNulties yard to see out the AH contract period and look for/await a new contract.
This was eventually in SA.
Cheap ready made tanker hull for conversion, about the right size and condition required for the original AH contact.

Exhaust valves, cylinder heads, pistons, Turbo chargers removed and sold during conversion in HW. So basically Yes the easy to remove bits were sold off.

Up to AP (Cammel Laird) for dry dock and LRS class hull survey, and minor repairs ready for new contract.
