Maersk Curlew

07.07.1997 taken from Devlin's Quay.

These were taken when she sailed 20.09.1997. Englishman had arrived for the tow out on the 17th and berthed at Riverside Quay. The local tugs brought her down to the slake to swing her. Light, alas, was fading fast, a bit like the memory these days, and by the time Englishman had connected up it was dark. These photos were taken through a hole in the wall at McNulty's and when i was taking them this suit and tie arrived and told me i couldn't take photo's as i was trespassing by taking photo's through their hole. I politely told him to bog off as i was standing on a public footpath. He said he was calling the police, which he did, and about 10 minutes later a constable arrived. The policeman asked what i was doing and i told him i was taking photo's of yonder vessel sailing. The constable then told suit and tie there was nothing he could do as i wasn't trespassing by shooting photo's through a hole in the wall, albeit the wall did belong to McNulty's. The very next day said hole had been bricked up.

You're probably lucky that it was only the hole in the wall that was bricked up.

Many tried but once the dogs set about them they run like the wind to save being licked to death.

This raises a serious issue for all ship photographers, as to the ownership of a hole in a wall, an eminent (and well paid) QC would surely take the view that the hole up to the outer face of the wall belongs to the owner of the wall ... so the key point to save Kevin from imminent (if delayed) arrest is, did the outer end of his camera protrude beyond the outer face of the said wall? The position of said person outside the said wall may not be relevant to the argument.
We may well be advised to keep all photographic equipment (also known as cameras) safely out of other people's holes (of any description) whether unintentionally created holes in solid walls or for example the gaps between pailing fences.

I've never protruded anything uninvited, honest.

Beware of the nose bleeds, that could be experienced due to the great height of said embankment..
