Hi Dave

Are you sure thats Middle dock ? if you stood where the photographer was you surely would see the Tyne Commissioners quay and the ferry terminal behind the boat on the other side of the river??

Also there 'looks' like a ship in drydock on the right side opposite and there never was a drydock 'opposite' middle docks

apologies if I am wrong :)

Thanks for your comment Mike. No I'm not sure. I thought long and hard, but had a mental block. Have another photo of her within Middle Docks so plumbed for that one.

Hi Dave

I know many things have sadly changed now on the river over the years and the poor old Middle docks have long gone, what puzzled me first is what 'looks like' a ship in drydock on the other side of the river, maybe one of the other guys will come up with somethings.

The pictures of the City of Westminster is interesting itself as I always thought the City of ??? boats belonged to the Ellerman line but this one 'Looks like' a dredger, was she?

By this time it had become TDE and she was entering TDE No3 dry dock. That's Smith's on the other side of the river to the right and that's the pump house. She was a dredger owned by Westminster Dredging. She entered dock 29.08.1997.

Ah that makes sense as the ship in the dock over the river must be in the old large Smiths dock, also on the left 'through the crane' you can just see the end of Northumbrian quay.

I should have known better as I wish I had a £ for every hour I spent down at Mill Dam next door :D

So for clarity Kevin, am I right in saying she is entering Middle Docks, although they had been renamed TDE by the time of the photo.
