These 2 are in respects similar being tankers but their employment was miles apart.

Date of image would be most revealing as RFA Tidreach inboard now has a pussers grey hull and still no pendant number, A96 which she did not carry as built when she also had a black hull. The staging over the quarters is for the four larger roller fairleads needed for astern refuelling.

Athelfoam outboard did have a fairly brief career as did a couple of her compatriots in the Athel fleet. Tate and Lyle may have been responsible for this, others here in this forum will know better than i.

The previous Athelfoam was also an Athel tanker from C Laird, y972, l 26-8-1930, on 162327 and sunk in the North Atlantic 15-3-1941 by the German Battlecruiser Scharnhorst with only 2 fatalities which is remarkable in the circumstances.

( I will also mention the 2 links do not. If corrected i will not edit this sentence. )
Thats all folks. Sean.

Sean,

Links now updated. Thanks for pointing them out.

As far as I could ascertain I believe Albert Weller took his photo probably during 1960 - or 1959 at the earliest.

From these dates I'm inclined to go for the middle one - July-August 1960, mainly because the EMPRESS OF CANADA and the Indian frigate BETWA were both in the water fitting-out by that period, and I suspect Albert recorded all three views during the same river trip.

Thanks Ron and Buggins for pinpointing the time frame for the original image in 1st post.
Remarkable the information held by individuals in this forum and their willingness to share their knowledge and the late Albert Weller with his photographic record and archive.
Sean.
