The reference to Tees Towing made me look in John Proud's SEAHORSES OF THE TEES.
Intresting reading! (After WW2) TT had to make do with whatever second-hand tonnage they could obtain. MARPLE, CENTRAL NO. 1 (renamed SILVER CROSS) and CENTRAL NO. 2 (renamed TEMPLE CROSS) were purchased from LNER on 21.3.1947. (The reason for purchasing the MARPLE) was that LNER insisted in selling all three as a job lot ... She cost them £500 but was sent (more or less) immediately to the breakers Clayton and Davie at Dunston who paid £160 for her! She appears to have arrived there on 1.5.1947.
