River Tyne - 26 June 1980 (my first sighting of her):

River Tyne - 23 May 1982 (my last sighting of her):

Between these two dates it is obvious some restoration work was undertaken on her.
Working from Mick's sighting in October 1979 she was on the Tyne for at least two and a half years. (Does anyone have more accurate arrival/departure dates?)

Her stay on the Tyne is not recorded in her history linked by Paul. Can anyone now recall the circumstances of her being on the Tyne for this period? Who was working on her over this time?

She was supposed to be part of a museum to be based in Maryport along with a few other steam vessels. The tugs GOLIATH and CHIPCHASE were supposed to go there too. Also, possibly a VIC boat. Work was carried out on the Tyne before CHIPCHASE and SCHARNHORN went round to Maryport. One of the ex Dundee and formerly Clyde tugs also made it round there. In the end it all came to nothing and SCHARNHORN was rescued by the Germans and CHIPCHASE was scrapped localy.
I think there was either a 30 min BBC Look North documentary on her sailing round or there was a few minutes every night for a week sort of thing.
There is a Maryport Maritime Museum still going but it's website does not mention any floating exhibits

She was discovered by the Treloar Brothers, Billy and Amos at Buckie and brought down to the Tyne in 1979. Intention was to restore her and their father, also called Amos lived aboard and carried out some work. Eventually everything moved round to Maryport where the Museum was started.
The BBC did make a film of the epic journey via the great glen. The main star was the CHIPCHASE and I have a feeling the SCHARHORN was towed round by a diesel tug. Will have to dig out the VHS! and watch it again.

Billy Treloar is still a Steam Nut and although he is now officially retired the family still operate a coal yard at Haltwhistle. They may also have had a yard in Alston but I'm not sure about that.
