A very fine sepia view from North Shields in the early 1900's

Thanks to Paul Hood for help with the fine little paddle ferry when previously shown on 'Riversea'

ELEANOR
1891, 89grt, 106ft
Built at the yard of her owner, Tyne General Ferry Company
In the background is one of her sisters or near-sisters, MAY or MABEL of 1891, ISABEL or DORIS 1889 or PHOEBE 1895
The company ceased trading in 1908 and the vessels were scrapped or sold.
To the right is one of the ETHELxxxx steamers of Harrowing S.S.Co., Whitby, there are several possibilities but her name cannot be read.
Alongside her is a local steam trawler with a 'SN' fishing registry.
Finally, behind the landing stage can be seen the masts of the training ship WELLESLEY which was the former wooden-wall H.M.S.BOSCAWEN. Established at North Shields about 1881 and destroyed by fire in 1914, when the school moved to a land-based site at Blyth
