Howdon & Jarrow ferry

Howdon & Jarrow ferry

This is from a post card dated 04.08.21 and shows the Howdon to Jarrow ferry at Howdon with Palmers in the background.
The ferry is, i think, the G.H. Dexter, it fits the date the card was posted.
The G.H. Dexter took the place of the C.M. Palmer that sank in 1916.
The ferry A.B. Gowan replaced the Dexter in 1921 and it is not the Gowan in the photo.

I don't think the CM PALMER sank in 1919 (unless she was salvaged). I understand she was broken up in 1925.

Not disputing that your photo could well be the GH DEXTER

CM PALMER was still listed in 1925 Mercantile Navy List and the CLIP site says register closed in 1925, so there is a rabbit away somewhere.

We always get these "rabbits" but it could well have been a "parrot" which is 100% worse.
