As I understand, the Tyne Direct Ferry Co ran a regular service up and down the Tyne with a fleet of small, passenger, paddle steamers and part of the revenue was to sell post cards such as the one posted by Kevin and also small booklets describing the various sights that would be seen from the ferry. There is a copy of such a booklet in the Newcastle Local Studies Collection. John Rogerson was instrumental in setting the company up and he built some of the early vessels in his name at St Peters. Then a later series was built by the Tyne Direct Ferry Co themselves, also at St Peters.
