SD-14s, The Final Chapter

SD-14s, The Final Chapter

With the recent arrival of NADEEN and HE FENG at Gadani Beach and Jingjiang respectively RYONG GANG 2 is now the sole trading SD-14. Built in 1976 she has survived many later built units no doubt in part due to her lengthy Oldendorff ownership. Launched as GLOBE TRADER she remained with Egon Oldendorff until 1999. In 2000 she became IMPALA before taking her present name in 2004 following sale to North Korea.

My mistake Patrick. She was ordered in 76, launched in 79 and completed in 1980.

Surprisingly NADEEN has had what is likely to be a temporary reprieve. Having loitered off Gadani Beach for some days she is now heading south towards Karachi and is listed to load 15,600 tons of cement. So for the time being there remain two active SD-14s.

And just to prove that you can't believe half of what you see on the internet she has just beached at Gadani at 7.7 knots.
