NICOLA

Re: NICOLA and SD14 ships in general

Postby Gert » Mon Mar 02, 2015 7:58 pm

Hello,

A couple of days ago I joined this Nort East Maritime Forum. So I am not completely aware of the possibilities of this site.
I have two reasons to be here: the first one is my interest that I have in the SD14 ships in general, which I have already about 10 years. Secondly I hope to get more info.
Why? I am an enthousiastic modeller. Mainly in Plastic, but every now and then in cardboard. And you might know that there exists a very nice model of the SD14 in scale 1 : 70. This model I intend already for a couple of years to build. It consists of 4.400 pieces to be cut and glued together.
All the pictures I find up till today mainly show the whole ship, from any side, sometimes from the air. What I am missing are the winches, details of the deckhouse and the derricks in detail.
Therefor my question: has anyone among the members more pictures about these items? I will be delighted.
I also do have a couple of shop drawings of the Tyne & Wear Museum and the book from Mr. J. Lingwood.
Which also gives lots of info. But you will understand: more info is always wanted.
Thanks in advance,

Gert Vlaanderen.

Hello Gert and a warm welcome to our site.
I am sure that whatever SD14 photos are in the hands of our members will appear here under Austin & Pickersgill, or under the Bartram section under the Sunderland section, and of course some from Smith's Dock under the Tees section.
We are also working on an independent database of Sunderland-built ships which hopefully will also attract photos when it goes live.
The sort of details you are looking for is maybe a matter of chance in being seen in the photos.
Anyone who has the patience to glue together 4400 pieces, has my admiration :)

Your namesake, the other George Robinson did.......

Cannot remember if he was at the Hartlepool AGM but assume he is still with us.

Hello,

For your info:

George Robinson died in the summer of 2014.

He developed the cardboard kit to be used for showing the students of the
Manchester Fire Brigade how a real ship looked like.

And time given: I will surely go through a lot of the 4.400 pictures.
In the mean time: anyone who got something: I can be made happy.

Regards,

Gert Vlaanderen

Thanks for that Gert.

Cut your options down and just go through the section on Sunderland Shipyards, Austin & Pickersgill.

I'll check through my other SD 14 Pictures and see what I can find.

Hello,

Thanks for looking through your pictures.

I did Austin & Pickersgil plus Bartram
And found already quiet a lot.
I am also already looking on Shipspotting.com for a couple of years.
They have a separate category for SD 14 vessels. There are 1.377 of them on the site at present.
Also a German sailor has quiet a lot on his site: Hans Rosenkranz.

So I have a number of pictures !!
But as a hobby guy you always want "more"

Best regards,

Gert Vlaanderen
