Excellent picture of what we thought would be a long lasting industry. My office was where the two windows are just above the bulbous bow
SUTJESKA was Laings contract 855 built at Thompsons.
JADRAN was Thompsons 735 contract built at Laings.
I worked on both but never knew what the reason was for exchanging contracts
Both were Panamax bulk carriers for the Yugoslavs, both had Doxford 760J8 engines (Sutjeska was Doxfords 430 contract and Jadran was 449.
This picture should be in Thompsons site.
Nice to see the old buildings at Austins pontoon. Take a picture from the same spot today and you could easily believe they were different places. Hard to believe it was 36 years ago. Thanks for posting it.
One of thirteen Panamax bulk carriers built between Thompsons, (JLT), and Laings, (SJL), five of which were for Yugoslavia. Jadran was Thompsons contract 735 built at Laings whilst Laings 855, Sutjeska contract was built at Thompsons. All of these ships were fitted with Doxford 760J8 engines. yard numbers below are followed in brackets with Doxford engine works contract number.
