Doxford 670 mm piston head, ex Bank Line, unused, salvaged from Kincaids when they closed, after having been appointed to supply Doxford parts when Doxfords were closed, now living happily in my garage. Others on picture are for comparison: Scania truck, Wolsley that tried to swallow its inlet valve; Lawnmower on its crank. Milk bottle for size comparison.

Doxfords Kassos. The rest of the damage. December 1945. Damage caused by breakage of No2 Forward, side connecting rod. Back bottom end bolt in foreground. Broken side rod is No2 aft, broken only 4" from extreme end of rod. 60LB3 engine, Doxford yard number 650. Built 1939, broken up 1977 at Kaohsuing. the engine room crew might have missed Chritmas at home but may have been cheered by the prospect of "more days, more dollars!"

Doxford Engine Works, Pallion in 1980, from south. Pickersgills yard at top edge and end of Doxfords new covered in yard at right upper side of photo. The notorious "Steels Bank" runs from the roundabout Northwards (up in the picture), to the River Wear. Steels and Shorts yard were served by this yard. And it was not unusual to see two Pickfords tractor units working together to get large sections of recently tested engines up this bank enroute to shipyards elsewhere.

I knew I'd seen your lovely photo before ... with the ship correctly named as CHRISTINA PEZAS!
