Now just to get my bearings right, Peter.

She's berthed at T W Greenwell's over the two dry docks and you took that picture from the corner of Corporation Quay??

Paul

On the main road (High Street East ?), just near the entrance to the docks there was a small turning on the left (blocked off now) with iron railings at the end. Thats where I took all my Greenwell's shots.

Right, got you now.

Was there a Shipbreaking Yard at Sunderland?

Just opposite the 'New' Yacht Club where the Quay goes back at 45 degrees??

Hi Paul.

Thomas Young & Sons had a breaking yard at Sunderland - I think that it was at the north end of South Dock - just inside the entrance. I think the company was active until the mid 60s.

Right, found that one. It was at the North end of 'Hudson Dock North' on the left as you entered the dock from the Half Tide Basin.
(Should have remembered that one!! Senior Moment!)

The reason for asking is:-

In the 1967 Port Handbook on Page 29 there is a view of the Entrance taken from the Air which shows what looks like the Hull of a ship in the Wave Trap behind Greenwells. Its to big to get into the Dock and I wondered if Young's broke up bigger ships there??
