King George dock - riverfront access

Postby Patrick Hill » Sun Jun 14, 2020 1:36 pm

The carpark on the riverfront at King George dock has recently been closed off - at first it was suspected to be related to the lockdown but it would now appear that it is due to work commencing on the Holderness drain to build a new pumping station. This will probably mean the carpark will be closed for some time. The footpath is still open but there is nowhere close by that I would recommend for parking.

There are also riverfront works from Victoria dock to the marina which means a lot of potential viewing areas are now unavailable.

The good news is that currently the carpark at Paull has now re-opened.

Shame. I'm currently scanning all my slides and revisiting trips to Hull, Goole and Immingham in the mid 90's when you could still get a Permit!!
Those days will never come back.. :( :(

And it has now been announced that the foreshore at Hessle will also be closed due to flood defence works.

No, it really is flood defence, went down there yesterday and all the car park is fenced off but can park near the Bridge if you can find space, one-way lights on the road. Guess the people who bought the houses on the frontage will be pleased anyway. It will just be a wall usual width and height so guess the parking will be back in due course.

Well in our case it was the first move to block off Crawford Street which was the access to the old Ferry Landing and the track that ran alongside the harbour to Bates Jetty. Bates was our vantage point to the berths on Battleship. From the Harbours point of view it was an excellant plan and a very sensible move on their part to join up two area's of quay. It all seems to be working with lots of new development. Climbing the "North Face" worked for a while but that is now being moved and fenced off.

Yes the parking will be back - however due to the crowds that were down there when lockdown restrictions were lifted they have decided from next week the road will be closed to all but residents and access until the construction is finished. :(

Just been advised, with photographic evidence, that the King George dock riverfront carpark is now open.
