Steel deliveries by rail continued at Wallsend yard until the mid eighties, plates generally on sloped trestles on flat-bed wagons - lying flat they would exceed the loading gauge. I don't recall ever seeing tank wagons, as fuel for trials, etc., would come by bunkering vessel or, occasionally, road tanker.
