Photograph sizes

Postby hartlepoolmonkey » Sat Feb 22, 2014 8:54 pm

Has there been a restriction imposed on the size of photographs we can submit?

I used to post photographs which were 1500 x 1000 but on my latest upload I was informed the file size was too large. I had to reduce it to 1024 x 683.

Through some photographic software I have, I can also dramatically reduce the MB size of a photograph. For example from 4MB to 2MB by saving it for 'web and devices' for inclusion on websites.

I don't claim to be any sort of expert, but I think size will relate not to dimensions but to Megabytes. By reducing the dimensions you will also reduce the Megabytes. I wasn't aware of any size limit but I always keep the Megabytes to less than 400K, if that makes sense.

Test at 1500 x 1000.

On the issue of the sizes and MB, I was just explaining that I have to software to do both. I can reduce a photo, for example, from 4MB to 2MB and yet keep the same size.

Now this worked!

The only thing I didn't do was add a watermark.

Just a gentle reminder that photos should be limited to not more than 1500 wide and 500kb, in the interest of download speeds.

Having no wish to be banned from the greatest shipping site in the North-East of England, and in order to remain in good standing and in full compliance with the wishes of the Great Controller, I have now created a new folder of my photos edited to NEM standards .... and have now replaced all the photos I posted just last night.

Having done so, I still need to seek forgiveness for the fact that a handful of them remain just over the 500kb size limit. Sorry!
