Greetings from NZ....just the other day after years of "Trawling around" for YONKS, I obtained a List of ALL (!) the Ships my late Grand-dad , served on as 3rd and later 2nd Engineer .Most of these Ships were , I believe all Tyne and Tees built.
1)ss"Kate B.Jones" Off.No.95154, Registered Cardiff. Built 1887. Voyage from 24/06/1892
to27/08/1892.Bldr.Schlessinger,Davis & Co.
2)ss "Rothsay".Off No.98412, Reg.Cardiff.Built 1874.6#Voyages from 03/10/1892 to 05/02/1894. Bldrs.Humphrey of Hull.
3)ss"Goimunding".Built 1890.Registered London.Voyage 19/05/1894 to 9/07/1894. Bldrs Blyth Shipbuilding.
Ships 1) and 2) are registered as Foreign Going, and 3) Baltic Trade....which to me =Home Trade ....I think !
4)ss "Radyt".Registered Cardiff -all I can find out about her is that my Gr-Dad was her 2nd Engineer on 4# Voyages, from 31/07/1894 to 12/09/1895....Her Horse Power was 99.
If anyone can 'steer ' me where to get more Info. about these Ships, particularly any place where a photo MIGHT be found , I would be grateful indeed, Best contact :- bruros@xtra.co.nz;....Looking forward to comments ...Thanks in advance , Bruce G.

Hi Bruce
KATE B. JONES is here on Dave Waller's Tyne-built site, unfortunately no photo found as yet

http://www.tynebuiltships.co.uk/K-Ships ... s1887.html

and the ROTHESAY you seek is a much later and larger vessel, built 1891 by Wm. Gray at West Hartlepool

http://www.teesbuiltships.co.uk/view.ph ... l=ROTHESAY

I'm not 100% sure that the postcard view of her on that page is her as there was one built on the Tyne in 1880 which would have a similar profile.

The 3rd one is GODMUNDING, 1890, 1264grt by Blyth SB and under this name until sold in 1899.

A common thread is that they were all with Cardiff owners at some time, J. Cory or others, although GODMUNDING was London registered.

RADYT should be RADYR, another owned by J. Cory & Sons of Cardiff, ON.87485, built 1883, 1042grt by E. Finch & Co. at Chepstow, under this name until sold in 1908.

Thanks George

However I have (this morning) managed to locate a photo of the KATE B JONES as the GIUSTIZIA. Site has now been updated.
