Europoort changes

I know not an area exactly covered by this forum, but many members may be interested. A post by the WSS Rotterdam branch on Facebook has advised that the Breeddiep gap (at the end of the Landtong opposite Hook of Holland) has been widened and deepened, now allowing the Pride of Rotterdam and Pride of Hull access to Beneluxhaven via the New Waterway rather than the Caland canal, avoiding any traffic movements in or out of the Maasvlaakte. So don't be too surprised if you seem to be heading up to Rotterdam on approach :)

Of course, the handy views of anything on the EECV or gas terminal will be a bit more distant...

Thanks for that Patrick, I had heard it had been widened but not that it was wide enough to take the ferries. It will also avoid the need for the many feeder container ships to have to go 'out to sea' and back when moving between the Maasvlakte and Rotterdam terminals. Pity in a way as it was always exciting to see the tugs and barges running through the narrow gap!
