Admirers of L. S. Lowry may know that in the post-war years he took summer holidays at Seaburn. I had not before seen the attached view, which is a print up for auction this weekend by Caroline Hawley at Beverley.

Seems remarkable you could pick up a genuine Lowry painting for such a small sum of money.
Well done, that man!

Ah, now I notice the word ... print!! Still a good buy!

Would you call her a "North Sea Submarine aka Flatiron" or not? She has the Bridge of a Flatiron, any idea which Class of Vessel(s) the subject is?

Not a flatiron Ron. A traditional coaster and ships of Geo Gibson came to mind.
In fact there seems quite a strong resemblance to their EILDON.

The bridge was probably taller and the people probably had fatter legs. It's the heat distortion that you get in Seaburn :)

It's a good job Lowry was not painting in the heat distortion last week :D
Thanks for the info "Team", the Bridge looked right for a "Flatiron" but the Stern did not look quite right although I fully understand the strange aspect of heat distortion having had a number of fast runs along Carnaby before it became a Trading Estate where the end of the Runway seemed closer than it actually was :o

Seems like a typical medium-size collier to me. Can we guess at which pier end it is?

Thankfully Picasso didn't take his holidays at the same place :D
