A rare view of an old Sunderland steamer, dated 27/9/1884.
She is lying against the Bridge Dock just above the Wearmouth Bridge on the north side of the river

as well as the ship itself, nice to see some of the buildings that made up the yard, another example of Sunderland shipyards hemmed in by steep river sides, housing and other industries and on narrow riverside sites. A welder that I worked with had a pigeon loft not far from here and I cannot see any easy way for workmen to get to and from the yard but how they got materials there for shipbuilding I cannot imagine. Useful photograph from a historical point of view. Thanks for posting.
