After the 2nd World War, the Icelandic government decided to modernise the Icelandic fishing fleet and many trawlers were ordered from UK and especially Humberside yards. Some were built for municipal owners and others were for private individuals. Two, Isborg and Solborg, were built for a joint local authority/private company set up in Isafjordur. Isborg was built by Cook Welton & Gemmell as their Yard No. 788. The photo of Isborg and a locally made model of her are on display in the maritime museum in Isafjordur in the Westfjords area of Iceland. Isborg was converted to a cargo ship in 1963 and side trawling ended in Isafjordur in 1965. Isafjordur is doing better than Hull as there are still 4 stern trawlers based there.
