This tug N.E.R. No 6, yard no 450 from C,W & G, followed yard no 449 N.E.R. No 5 down the slip.
Although for the same owner & built together from the same yard, the pair were not sisters.

No 6 - launch 6 Dec 1922, gt 190, 95' x 24.1', 159 NHP for use at company's docks at Hartlepool.
No 5 - launch 6 Aug 1922, gt 161, 75' x 26.1', 173 NHP for use at company's docks at South Shields.

There seems some peculiar figures here, details from C,W & G 1883 -1963 by MT, DN, RR & TL, page 153.

Dave,
I presume that is a typo in the first line of your original post and we are talking about no. 6, not no. 5?

Yes Ron, you know me "king of the typos" otherwise known as stupid errors. I obviously read what I think I have typed.

The figures quoted are confirmed by Lloyds Register for 1936.
I presume the different sizes were determined by the locks that they had to use at the two different locations.

N.E.R. No 6. definitely has West Hartlepool painted on her two life buoys in front of her bridge. How many different parts of Hartlepool docks then existed.

Anyone ideas which the 2 tugs are over to the right in the top image. And the one lurking behind N.E.R. No 6. whose funnel is just visible. All appear to be N.E.R. tugs from the funnel markings.

In the first image NER No 6 is in the livery of Newport Screw Towing, so presumably the photo was taken in 1960.
Very difficult to identify the two tugs in the backround.
By my records they had 4 tugs sent for scrap in 1960/61and anther 4 tugs either joining or continuing in service at the same time.
As regards Hartlepool v West Hartlepool, they were two separate dock systems joined by one lock and they all became one system when the two towns amalgamated in 1967.
