No date on the card. The ferry coming over from Wallsend is the Wallsend and the one to the right is the Fairy Queen, first time i've seen a photo of this one.

I was hoping that someone was going to identify the steamers on Swan's quay. On the left is the West Yard with the gantry which was I think built for the MAURETANIA. The East Yard is the covered berth with SH&WR witten on the gable end. In between is the space where they constructed the floating drydocks.

Hahahahaha Some hope!

Its post Mauretania (1907) to 1940 ish.

Without a hint of a date its really impossible.

Still its a GREAT PICTURE!

Another view of the Hebburn ferry looking over towards Swan's Wallsend yard.

All the freighters look to me like standard WW1 designs of which several were built by SHWR under 'WAR' or later completion names.
Bit of a long shot but in the upper picture, the passenger vessel on the right might just be MODASA before getting her B.I. stripes but she came from the Neptune yard.

May be a long shot George, but not a bad match. Don't know whether they moved work between the yards, probably more difficult to organise in those days.

Looking again, what I thought was a shorter black funnel might indeed be taller and the white part the BI stripes.
