Brigham & Cowan

Brigham & Cowan’s “new” 715 feet long dock, dating, from the early fifties, was a favourite of photographers, being readily observable from the adjacent roadway. Also readily visible from a nearby footpath was their older 455 foot dock lying almost parallel to the river. However, until the early sixties, they also operated a smaller, 204 foot, dock between the two larger docks. It is just visible, unoccupied, ahead of the docked collier, in this picture from February 1966. Also just visible alongside the small dock is a storage area that was once a fourth dock, filled-in during the fifties to create storage space and, I believe, a sullage tank
